I am listing here all the plugins installed in this blog. This list can be a quick reference and a checklist for you to start a new blog.
In my previous post “The birth of SEO MMO Tips – The first step of starting a blog” we’ve seen the different aspects to consider and different steps to cover for a blog to start. I revealed how domain name, hosting, blogging platform, anti spamming plugin. As I promised, here goes the list of great plugins:
Essential Plugins
Plugins for Security
#1. Antivirus: It is a small efficient solution to protect your blog against exploits and spam injections.
Be ready for any kind of attacks against your blog and a single success of a mischief is far more than sufficient to shatter your month-long efforts. Mat Keegan from Matt’s Musings relates an incident with him (see Antivirus for WordPress Detects Mischief). Mat found devastating reduction of SERPs and when in investigation, it was explored that the description of the posts from that blog contained some filthy porn words. This caused the posts penalized and SERP dropped down heavily. Antivirus for WordPress developed by Sergej Müller works great!
#2. Login LockDown: Adds some extra security by restricting the rate at which failed logins can be re-attempted from a given IP range.
#3. WordPress Firewall: Blocks suspicious-looking requests to WordPress. After all security is of high concern!
Plugins for Efficiency
#4. Comment Approve Notifier: A very useful plugin that sends an e-mail when you approve their comment. They will feel it good to know the comments are approved!
#5. CommentLuv: Allows comment author to insert a link to current post from his blog. This is a great way to share posts. We will be sharing the hot cakes sooner.
#6. KeywordLuv: Comment authors are tempted to use their keyword in the name box so that it become the anchor text for the link of their site. This most often look so ridiculous. This plugin will let your user enter their Name @ their keyword so that the link is placed for keyword. This can encourage to enter the real name than company name!
#7. Dean’s FCKEditor for WordPress: This replaces the comment box that resembles with Word screen. Comment authors will have more options when entering comment improving commenting experience.
#8. FD Feedburner Plugin: I burn the feeds through Feedburner, so all the feed links should be redirected to feedburner feed. This plugin does great work for that.
#9. Subscribe Remind: It will place some text at the end of each post to remind your users subscribe feeds. This will be helpful to convert your reader to subscribers.
#10. Thank Me Later: This plugin engages the visitor by reminding them to check back for responses or new blog posts. The plugin is highly configurable with multiple messages, variable delays and restrictions. This can be helpful to improve the returning visitors.
#11. Twitterlink comments: This pluging lets comment author to enter twitter ID so that others can follow them through comment.
#12. WP-DBManager: Manages your WordPress database. Its possible to optimize, repair, backup, restore, delete, drop/empty tables and run selected queries right from our dashboard.
#13. WP-Typography: Make your text look good. Uses hyphenation, space control, intelligent character replacement, CSS hooks for styling.
#14. WP-UserOnline: displays how many user are online in blog.
Plugins for SEO
#15. Google XML Sitemaps: Sitemaps are the tool you can help search engine bots to identify your links and index them. This plugin creates sitemap.xml file that you can submit to Google Webmaster.
#16. No Self Pings: It would look odd when a post lists pings from other posts within same blog. This plugin will filter them out!
#17. Platinum SEO Pack: Complete SEO solution for your WordPress blog as the plugin description says. It is useful to set the post meta when posting.
#18. Target Blank In Posts And Comments: This pluggin will cause open external links in another tab or browser window. This way it will keep your visitors.
#19. WP-Optimize: This plugin helps you to keep your database clean by removing post revisions and spams in a blaze!
#20. YARPP: It returns a list of related entries based on a unique algorithm for display on blog and RSS feed.
OK, the construct of SEO MMO Tips blog is been revealed with a hope that you’ll find this post as checklist of useful plugins. I hope you’ll suggest some great and useful plugins if they are not listed here!
Happy Blogging!

Hi Suresh,
I don’t use to comment on blogs these days. Whenever I do comments they are often not approved or I guess Akismet identify ‘Jakes’ as a spammer. Well as far in my blog, I am not much concerned about spams. They are too low in number there.
Most of the plugins listed here are good. Of these I will have to try out WP-Typography & anti-virus plugins. BTW, is this users online thing working.. It is showing 27 users online.. Being a new blog, it is hard to believe. Anyways I wish you a good blogging career here too. Let this blog roar into Alexa 100000 ranks in no time.

Hi Jakes,
Its so weired that your comment was caught in Spam. Why don’t you choose some other name like last name if Akismet is wrongly interpreting Jakes?
Antivirus might display you some lines ‘Yellow’ though they are not harmful because they are using the potentially risky commands. You can mark them safe if you are sure of.
User Online works fine. It counts guests, members and bots. It separates the type of visitors in backend. Because it is just established and I am setting up the ping services, notification services and posting articles, could have reflected that number.
Thank you for the wishes and I truely believe good networking can make blogging success!
Thanks for resurrecting me from the spammers. I honestly don’t think this spam stuff has to do something with ma nickname ‘Jakes’. I did a bit of research on that . Finally I was fed up and ended up in quitting the thing called ‘commenting’

Akismet flags some users (tracked by email address) as spammers if you had done too much in the past. If many of the blogs had marked your comment spam then this can effect for long afterwards. The flag will be removed when considerable number of blogs mark you ‘Not Spam’ again. Did you try using some other email address with your name Jakes?
Nope… I haven’t tried with other email address.. Will definitely look into it.. BTW, I don’t have a past of too much commenting.. 10-15/week thats all

Recent grumbles against Akismet is audible in blogging world. Yesterday I disabled Akismet and installed ‘Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin’. Surprisingly there not a single comment in my spam box. Highly suggested to use ‘Growmap Anti Spambot Plugin’ instead of Akismet for blogs.

Welcome Ganesh to the blogging world! Wish you best of your time blogging!
Feeds are the means to distribute your content over the net. Many readers would like to get informed when a new post is published and the easy way is to subscribe your feed. If you are using WordPress, type your url and add /feed at the end, you’ll see your feed displayed. Now this feed address can be used in many applications and services like Facebook, HootSuite, NetworkedBlogs and many to automatically submit your links there. Your readers will use your feed url to read your content in their feed readers or emails.
Feedburner is a service by Google to manage your feeds and get statistics. You can burn your feed on feedburner and then use that address everywhere. You have options to analyze how many of your feeds are getting visits, from where and blabla. You can even monetize your feeds using Adsense if you are using FeedBurner.
Hope I clarified it a bit. Should you have any further questions which are not related to the post discussion, you are very welcome to post on our FaceBook Fan Page http://facebook.com/seommotips.
Hope to see you soon again!
Thank you for providing me informaion about Feed & Feedburner…

That is the downside Thomas. We find plenty lucrative plugins and we are always scared with the numbers. Anyway, I use W3 Total Cache plugin to improve the performance.
Thank you Thomas for the comment.
One of the easiest ways to make money online is to become an affiliate marketer
You need honestly work harder I believe but it earns good, isn’t it?
Nice list of plugins and a few I have not tested like the Dean’s FCKEditor for WordPress at all, one thing with Platinum SEO Pack, I know it is regarded highly, but there is a reason there are only 369k downloads of that plugin vs 6.5+ million downloads of the All in One SEO Pack for WordPress. I recently switched from AIO to Greg’s High Performance and it may have caused a 60% drop in search traffic due to it so I switched back, be careful when using SEO plugins, I don’t know if Platinum SEO is as good as AIO since I haven’t tested them side by side.
WordPress plugins also use RAM and can cause performance issues if you install/use too many, when adding things like a “subscribe to email” at end of every post, it would better to add it manually to your single.php file than to use a plugin to save on resource utilization in my opinion as well.

I read your post and really wondered. There certainly must be a reason and when your experience has already brought those data out, nobody can argue. I’m glad you’ve sorted it out and resolved.
Platinum SEO is fairly new compared to that old lion AIO. This must be one reason for the heavy differences between download numbers but we can’t say certainly without proper tests and results.
I agree with you to reduce the number of plugins as far as possible and to hard code them is better approach.
Nice list. Bookmarked for later use
I think I have to check here more often. Thanks for sharing!
You are always welcome Michael.
I haven’t known that there’s a anti-virus plug-in for WordPress haha
I’m so curious about how it works. Have you tried it, Suresh? I wonder whether it causes any problems to my hosting at all?
There’re some more SEO WordPress plug-ins that you should check out such as Keyword Density checker, Ultimate SEO, and many more. Ultimate SEO is really a nice choice that can be used to substitute most paid SEO plug-ins on the market right now. Check it out, will ya?

The concept of Antivirus plugin is very straight forward. Install it on your fresh wordPress blog and perform a scan. This will list the clean files and some places it suspects – you can verify them as safe. Now, once you approved everything and made them all green, from next time you are pretty sure that some nasty insertion are made if you see any other yellow or red. The plugin will stop and inform you if there is any suspecious changes are made to your theme files. So, its pretty useful.
I’ve not used Ultimate SEO, but I’ll certainly do.
Hi all, Above lists are really helpful those are newbie. Apart from above tips. I would like to suggest is constant monitoring of blog should be done….
Thanks & Regards

You have made a good list of plugins.I do not think there is any need to install all the plugins,as they may break your site sometimes and also can make your site slow and vulnerable to hackers

Thank you Nipon for the comment. These are the plugins used for SEO MMO Tips. I understand it is better to tweak your theme rather than installing lots of plugins but I’m not that good in coding and those plugins are helping me fine. I’d be glad to learn if any of them can be removed.
This is a good list. #20 (YARPP) has now been replaced by Blog Glue though. It is by the same person/company that made YARPP but it’s better because you can give/get links from other blogs too, not just your own.
Thank you Beth for the update. Truly appreciate your stop by and input.
