5 Places to Find Free Photos for Your Blog

3 Flares 3 Flares ×

If you are like most bloggers, you have a hard time finding royalty free commercial or private use photos to add to your posts. You can spend a considerable amount of time digging through Google’s image search, pay a monthly fee for access to one of the photo sites, pay for each photo you use, or you can get the photos you need for free. But, you say, if they are free they must be either boring or terrible. That is where you are wrong. Here are some photo sites that offer free photos on a variety of topics that are neither boring nor terrible.

Free photos for your blog

Morgue File

This is a site destined for amateur photographers. Photo buffs of all kinds can post pictures here that anyone can use. You can find all sorts of interesting photos on this site. Close-ups and distance shots – landscapes and people, animals and technology. Whatever photo you need to accent your blog post, you should be able to find it here. Check out the home page for the featured photo of the day. I am always impressed by what photos are promoted there. The quality of the photos is usually pretty good, although there are a few that are fuzzy or out of focus. You can use your own judgment there, but, hey, it is free after all!

Free Digital Photos

This is a more professional site, filled with stock photos of all kinds. The only stipulation to use their free photos is that you properly attribute the photo. They make that very easy to do because they include the proper attribution in the download agreement. All you have to do is check the box and enter the code and voila, you have a high quality stock photo for free. You can search their site in a variety of ways, and the photos are always of the highest quality.

Woophy

While this photo site has a very odd name, it is for a good reason. Woophy stands for World of Photography, and it lives up to its name. The home page is a world map, populated by small bricks showing the concentration of photos taken in that area. If you want photos of a particular location, then look no further. They have everything from architecture to landscapes to people. Great for culture buffs and those who want to get deeper in an area then just the famous sights, Woompy is an interesting and eclectic free photo destination.

Stock.xchng

Another great photo site for stock and other free photos, this site offers information for photography buffs such as exposure times and type of camera used to take the photo. It is very interesting, but some of the photos have different regulations then others. Make sure you read the directions before using the photos.

Stock Vault

Are you looking for really high quality or extra-large pictures? Well, look no further. StockVault is the place to find very high quality free photos by professionals. They do not even make you sign in or put in a password. Just find a photo you like and click download. Please make sure you properly attribute the photo, and you can even donate support to photos that prove particularly useful to you.

No matter what type of blog you have, you will always want to spice it up with photos. Readers are very visual and photos help to grab and keep their attention. Why not take a look at some of these sites? You may find that these free photos are just what you were looking for!

  5. In order to obtain standard images these websites help a lot. But best way is that we make images of our own choice with the help of photoshop. It’s very enjoyable to work in photoshop.

  15. Hi Christine – a good list of free photo sources – one I see you don’t have on your list is microsoft. If you search in Google for the phrase microsoft free photos you should see it as the top entry.

Not only does it have a range of good high resolution images available for free use, there are some clipart images and animated gif images (although it must be said they are a little dated).

    Hope this helps!

  16. Thanks for sharing :)
