It was already seven when I clicked the ‘Publish’ button of ‘Windows Live Writer’. I had just finished giving the last touch to my first post of SEO MMO Tips blog – The Birth of SEO MMO Tips – The First Step of Starting a Blog!
It is never sufficient writing good content, publish and wait for visitors to come and enjoy! You must tell people where to find your post. Here comes the role of Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
Today! in this post, I’m not going to discuss what SEO is and how to do it. I’m rather disclosing the actions I believe are responsible to make my first post indexed in Google just in four hours! Yes, four hours. It was eleven when I did a google search for site:http://seommotips.com to find my site indexed!
Search Engine Friendly URLs
After installing WordPress, the first thing I did was to beautify the post URLs. By default WordPress uses ugly URL structure such as: http://seommotips.com/?p=123. This URL is neither friendly to users nor it reaps the benefit of search engines to have keywords in URL.
I changed Permalink Settings to /%category%/%postname%/. This returns the Posts URL as http://seommotips.com/wordpress-plugins/20-essential-wordpress-plugins-of-seo-mmo-tips-blog/. This URL contains ‘category’ and ‘post title’ where the keywords are always targeted!
I don’t know if it has contributed anything to get the first post indexed in Google within four hours, but I’m sure, this will help me to have better grip of my keywords.
[Note: You can change Permalink Settings by clicking on Permalinks menu under Settings Group in your Admin Backend page.]
Ping Services
Ping services allow you to automatically notify blog directories and search engines that your blog has been updated. The bigger your ping list the higher the chances of receiving traffic from those sources, so check out the list below and include it on your blog. I was helped by Imran Yousaf the owner of BlogingJunkie to compose this list of ping services:

http://blogsearch.google.com/ping

Social Media Status
We can’t ignore the prominent role of social media such as FaceBook, Twitter and blogging networks such as BlogEngage, MMOSocialNetwork, FAQPal and many more. It all depends on how much time you can invest to be active in these networks and how efficiently you can build-up and maintain relationships.
-
I updated profile status message in FaceBook to inform my first post is published in this baby blog. I did it similar in Twitter too!
-
Then I shared my post with BlogEngage Friends. You can see the post and help me by voting in Blogengage through Vote on this article at blogengage.com
-
Similarly, MMOSocialNetwork is another powerful community of active and creative bloggers. I’d be grateful to you for voting my post Featured in MMO Social Network.
-
Because the first post of my blog was a type tutorial, I can post it on FAQPal too!
Comments in Other Blogs
The last thing I’d done after I published the first post within those four hours was writing some comments in some other blogs. They were not more than six to ten blogs as I remember. I always type my real name in Name field of comment box though I know keywords are of better value because this will be published as anchor text of a link back to my site. But as a blogger, I know, the keywords as comment author name look ridiculous and degrade the beauty of that blog. So, if the blog has not implemented KeywordLuv, I don’t use my keywords.
OK, these were all. Now can you suggest which among these tasks is responsible to index my first post within four hours in Google?
Happy Blogging!

Hi Suresh
Google indexed in four hours is some going!
I use “pretty permalinks” but that’s about all I do – need to look at your other tips.
One of the reasons I use WordPress is for its great SEO capabilities.
Each post can have its own set of keywords. On a static website you would have to add a new page to achieve that and then start messing about with links and navigation etc.
Oh well… back to your other suggestions.

Dear Keith,
Indexed in four hours is not something extra-ordinary but getting early indexed is certainly beneficial.
Pretty permalinks do not assure early indexing, but it is the first item in to-do list for every new blog. As I discussed in post, the most important factor must be the submission my article in BlogEngage and MMOSocialNetwork. They have some good

Great list of ideas. I use similar strategies and similar ping services. I never go more than 8-10 hours without getting indexed. The more your main site gets crawled the easier it becomes too. ON a blog with little content only days old it can take a while. But the bigger and more content filled you are the quicker it can get. I bet sites like cnn.com get indexed in minutes. (if that long)

It must be a great experience to find the post indexed immediately you publish. I guess we dealt on bit different topics. I did not claim that my post was quickest to get indexe. Moreover, I bought a domain, setup a blog and published my first post. That post is indexed in four hours. Now these later posts are indexed pretty sooner.

Bro please add a point after ping list that they should not ping desperately else Search engines may block them after their several and repeated attempts. One of my friend blogger did it & i learnt through it !
Hope so you may help those new bloggers not being flagged as Ping SPammer !
Thanks for the suggestion. That was what I was querying. And moreover, is it necessary to list multiple ping services?
I have two blogs. One of them i got indexed in 5 minutes. The other in 20 hours. I dont know why that diference of time.

I have a blog which I am not running presently where I have made my first article in less than a hour, even I was surprised and did not no how it happened, when I carefully checked google then my first link was for twitter followed by my blog, which was getting indexed quickly and how this is not the case.

Thank you sanjeev for the inspiring words. Yes SEO MMO Tips has been two weeks old now.
Hi Suresh,
You are certainly right when it comes to using your own name when commenting on a blog (unless it is a keyword luv blog) as otherwise your comment will either not be accepted.
Since google caffeine was introduced, it is amazing the speed at which pages are indexed. I have had pages indexed almost immediately, four hours is quite a long time really.
Once you’ve updated your ping list though – if you’re a person that tends to look at a post and notice mistakes you want to fix (I am!) and do an update on the post after publish – you really need a plugin like maxblogpress’ ping optimizer so you do not re-ping the post on update. If you ping the same post more than once in under 15 minutes you can find yourself blocked from a lot of the ping services. Of course many of them are interlinked anyways and ping each other but its still better safe than sorry when your wanting maximum eyes on your site I always figure.

Hi!
I still don’t get it! what’s the purpose of having Google Index?
Once you succeed to get your page indexed on Google, then only you can expect your posts to be listed in search results. If no posts are indexed, the people who are searching for information you provide is never displayed them and you won’t get any traffic from search engine. That proves the purpose of Google Index.
Thanks Armil for query. Please feel free to discuss.
You got indexed in your blogs in just 4hours may be because your a little bit old. But if your old enough then you can get it in just a few seconds like mine it takes a long long hours to get index.
Thanks a lot for sharing. I learned a lot of ideas in your post.

This is actually very common with sites. My site (in the link above) had it’s newest post indexed within the first hour that I put it up. If your site is updated regularly, and your sitemap priorities are set accordingly, Google will trust your site more and crawl it very often. This is also true for my title tags, which I changed almost every day for a while trying to find a good combination of words.

For good rankings I agree that it is really important to put your keywords into your customized permalinks structure URL. Personally, I suggest to use between three and five keywords. With a slightly longer URL you can pick up some additional traffic. However, if you have to few keywords you’ll have a hard time ranking and with too many keywords you page may not be liked by the major search engine.

While it’s possible to make a blog and have it indexed almost straight away, most people go about doing so with a poor overall strategy for success. It’s very much possible to be indexed by Google in 24 hours or less.

Only 4 hours for a Google index!?!?!
That’s unbelievable! It took me a few months to have all of my pages indexed (despite having sitemaps).
I especially like your list of Ping services, thanks for providing them! As soon as I get some free time, I’m going to get to work on that list!
I guess it is due to the ping services and the social networks where I was already active. They helped me to get indexed very soon for the new blog with one post.
I find recently that a new post gets indexed really quick, sometimes in less than one hour! my blog is PR4 so I guess that helps but the thing that really makes the difference (I think) is that feeding my rss to twitter. I have also found that whereas a year ago I’d watch a post climb in the google rankings over one month or so – they now seem to start high and drop for a month before climbing up again. I think this might also be due to twitter type links to a post.
I’m going to conduct an experiment with multiple twitter accounts to see if this has any effect.
