Installing WordPress is more than easier, you’ve ever imagined, if your hosting provides Fantastico De Luxe in cPanel. Its all about just a few clicks and filling up a small form to name your blog, set up username and password.
Do you have cPanel?
If you are using free hosting service, you may or not have cPanel. Some nice free hosting like frihost.net provide you premium like hosting and they do have cPanel. Please check your account features to ensure. You should see the cPanel logon page by typing yourdomain/cpanel in address bar.
For all paid hosting, you are given cPanel to manage your account. cPanel is used to manage Mails, Files, Logs, Security Options, Domains and Sub-Domains, Databases, Web Software and Services available, as well as some advanced tools!
Do you have Fantastico De Luxe?
Fantastico De Luxe is the popular script installer for cPanel Servers. This lets you be free from FTP upload and greatly simplifies the configuration process.
Scroll down your cPanel page and look under the Software/Services category. You will find Fantastico De Luxe with smiling face icon if it is provided in your cPanel.
Fantastico De Luxe can be used to install and manage some of the popular web software for Blogs, Classifieds, Content Management, Customer Relationship, Discussion Boards, E-Commerce, F.A.Q., Hosting Billing, Image Gallaries, Mailing Lists, Polls and Surveys, Project Management, Site Builders, Wiki and many other types.
You can keep track and update and upgrade the installed software through Fantastico De Luxe. This really makes life easy!
That’s Great! So, Let us install WordPress!
Click on WordPress link in left panel under Blogs group to begin WordPress installing through Fantastico De Luxe.
On the body part you’ll see the link for New Installation.
The link displays information regarding the version to be installed along with disk space requirement. Check if Fantastico is installing current version available though you can upgrade at any time. Next thing, check if you have sufficient space in your hosting account. WordPress 3 requires something like 10 MB of free space and lot more afterwards to publish your articles, images and other content.
First Step of Wizard
WordPress Installation Wizard has three steps. On the first step:
Install on domain: Choose your domain name or sub domain. I’m installing it on tutorials sub domain of seommotips.com blog.
Install in Directory: enter the name of directory if it is different than the directory of domain/sub domain directory. In my case I’m installing WordPress in the same directory, so leave it empty.
Administrator username: Enter your username. This will be used to log on to the backend of WordPress. Select something that you won’t forget but hard for others to guess.
Password: Enter password for that administrator account. No need to say, it must be strong enough to save yourself from all those nasty heads.
Admin Nickname: You can enter your name or some nickname that will be used to show as author’s name on the posts you’ve written.
Admin e-mail: Enter your email address. This will be used to send notification on comments, posts and so on.
Site Name: Enter your site name. This name is used on source page as well as on your site if you are not displaying graphical site logo.
Description: Enter some slogan or description about your site.
Second Step of Wizard
This is very easy step. All you need to do is click on that ‘Finish installation’ button.
Third Step of Wizard
Just look at the image below and find out what you need to do to complete this final step!

Looks like its way too easy with fantastico. I remember installing wordpress on free hosting and took me whole day to figure out how to manage database and all those stuffs. But having said that, manual installation is always a challenge and exciting thing to do.

HEllo suresh as you said i installed wordpress its brand new and i haven’t installed any unusal plugins but i get major problems on wordpress when i do any task like commenting ,loging,or installing any themes or plugins ,instead to show the page it shows blank white page ,and due to this i am very much dissapointed from wordpress i searched the people suffering from same problem and asked solution but they could’t so suresh will you help me if you know how to fix this issue?
There can be multitudes of reasons and it won’t be possible to troubleshoot with one shot for me as I have not seen your WordPress installation. Anyway I can suggest you to consider following and hope it will solve your problem
1. Is your Akismet enabled? Try disabling it and test if it is solved.
2. Have you installed Firewall on your wordpress? Set your own IP as whitelisted in its settings page and test if the problem is solved.
3. Are you using the host that supports all PHP settings required? I am using HostGator and there is never problem for anything. Check your hosting settings and consider using better host.
Well Thant was easy! Thanks so much for this easy to understand and implement guide!

I have installed WordPress via Fantastico deluxe but I noticed that it takes about 50mb of disk space. Actually the folder I installed into (blog) is only about 9mb but there are a huge amount of files installed at root. Any idea whats the solution?
Fantastico keeps track of which scripts installed, versions, updates and so on. But it won’t take that much of space if you install multiple blogs in same account. But, does that little space matters in unlimited webspace world?
Great tutorial. It actually helps me to install wordpress because last day I’m planning to install wordpress and this could be a great help to me. Thank you Suresh for this help!

Hey Suresh,
Thanks for the tutorial.
I have one question. Do you still need to install a index.html for this after wordpress is made live via fantastico?
