SEO MMO Tips Blog Is Finally DOFOLLOW

3 Flares 3 Flares ×

Dofollow or nofollow has always been confusing among the webmasters. Google suggests to add ‘nofollow’ attribute to the links. SEO Plugins always recommend to add ‘nofollow’ to outgoing links to have higher SEO Score. Do nofollow free links harm the SEO of a blog?

There is another half of the world. Community demands dofollow links. They call nofollow links selfish. They believe sharing enriches. That’s why commentLuv, keywordLuv, nofollow free plugin, dofollow.info community exists.

follow-me dofollow

SEO MMO Tips remained the default NOFOLLOW for long (since it was started). Now it has got Google PageRank 3 and Alexa ranking 119K. I want to join dofollow community and have better interaction in my blog.

I was receiving some comments asking why the blog is not dofollow when it is keywordLuv enabled? They were asking what’s the use of keywordLuv if it does not pass the link juice?

Does it harm the PageRank and SEO if my blog is dofollow? I have seen many blogs that are ranked higher though they are completely dofollow. So it must not hamper in that scale. Let me see how this change affect the blog.

Making a blog dofollow will invite more comments and obviously more spams too! I’ve installed GASP, and enabled Akismet. I will be moderating each new comment author and hope I’ll be able to handle the spam issue.

I installed Nofollow Free plugin and configured it in such a way that the loyal commenters get dofollow link back to their site.

However there is a certain number of comments required before your anchor text is nofollow free.

I’d love to hear your views on this change. Please comment below.

  1. Very cool!

I think that’s a pretty good direction that you’re going because it will definitely pull in some more commentors but it also means that you’ll spend more time responding to comments so be ready for it :)

  2. Hi Suresh,

Good to see you’ve entered in the do-follow. From my experience Nofollow Free is fundamental. If you check your stats you’ll see people searching for the combo do-follow+ keywordluv enabled to “donate” the spam and then that plugin will be set for many comments the no-follow.

In some cases I’ve set up for spammers that come again and again for their email, or URL a Nofollow always on that plugin.

I’ve seen bloggers with do-follow and great rankings, it’s matter of quality backlinks and deleting spammers in comments.

    All the best,

  3. I appreciate your thought for changing your blog into dofollow. I don’t think that for that your blog is going to be hamper, rather you will get more visitors than previously what you got. Blog lovers always appreciate any comments or decision about their topic but simultaneously the blog commenters will also want some benefits from their comment. Thanks.

  4. I think you are going in the good direction. In the long turn run I think you can only benefit from increased activity, comments, engagement and traffic. Alexa rating will go up so you can probably monetize this blog site better.

  5. Good for you Suresh.

My blog is dofollow as well, I love being able to give something back to genuine commentators.

GASP helps a lot, Akismet I just found to put genuine comments into spam. Still, some moderation is needed – your blog being a PR3 you’ll attract some spammers (take it as a compliment!)…

Wish you all the best with it mate, I’d love to know if you notice any change in the SERPs…

  7. Keywordluv does not “require” a dofollow link. People are mistaken if they do not believe that a nofollow link still passes linkjuice (and anchor text). Matt Cutts has said and proven as much.

However, a dofollow link is worth about 10x (estimate!) the linkjuice of a nofollow link and thus a lot more interesting for those that are building links for SEO but much more expensive for the giving blog.

There is a downside for the “giving” blog and it’s not actually safe to ignore it but if one can compensate for it with using the social proof and social shares to get more non-SEO traffic then it all balances out and is a great boon for the blog (but that is not always the case).

There is also the case that on highly active blogs, the HUGE number of comments can bleed so much link juice that it can make it challenging to build up any link juice on the page itself for ranking purposes. This is something that those with bigger DF blogs really struggle with.

That said, my blog is DF, CL, KL and it has done very well for me with proper management.

    • I stayed nofollow from the beginning of this blog. I understand the loss for giving blog but I could not ignore community. Let’s hope I can manage the balance, or it will be a good study to see the impact of this change.

Thank you Kim for your suggestions.

    • Hey Kim,
I agree to a certain extent. I have not done any actual experiment, but I have found that my posts with more comments tend to rank easier than posts that get none to very few comments.

The comments do provide fresh index-able content, so that is another benefit to the blogger.

My take on it is to make the comments no follow until the commenter has 2 or 3 approved comments. This will not pass link juice to a drive by commenter who is interested in nothing but a link, but reward regular readers who would then be more encouraged to come back and provide comment content and some social media luv, especially with commentluv premium coming online.

I think that is going to skyrocket the social media sharing for bloggers, and that is only going to increase your future ability to rank in my opinion. So I think do follow commentluv links are going to be a real win win for everyone.

  8. Hey Suresh. Wassupblog has been dofollow since day one because I always wanted to generate a feeling of community on that site and the only way to do that is to reward your commentators any way you can, and of course dofollow is a great way to start. Keywordluv and commentluv add to the equation, but the best way to do it is to converse with your commentators. Yes this increases to the workload but is well worth the effort.

    Happy commenting ;)

  9. Hi Suresh , Really you are doing a great job. And it is good to change in dofollow. But due to dofollow you will attracted more spammer. But you mention that there should be certain no of post to get dofollow. Great trick

  10. reeha@"super sale" says:

According to me congrats on that turn because this turn will bring some more commentators and makes you trouble more and more. thanks for sharing. keep up the right and great work.

  11. Nice to see you’ve gone do-follow. It takes a lot of guts to make the switch. Can you do a follow-up post in a month or so to let us know how it has affected your site (positively & negatively)? I’m thinking of putting CommentLuv on my blog and eventually making it do-follow, but I don’t want to spend the majority of my time weeding through spam.

Anyway,Suresh,it makes your work more but ll give benefit to your blog.
    Best of Luck!

  14. Excellent move Suresh, this will bring you lot of comments for your blog posts. But be ready to fight against spammers ;)

My blog is no-follow now, I am offering do-follow for commentluv links. Anyway I am also tempted to make my blog dofollow soon.

    • The problem really is not the spam comments but the genuine comments caught by Akismet in Spam, otherwise, I could just click ‘Empty Spam’. Because Akismet often catches genuine comments, needs to go through all those rubbish :(

  15. Hi Suresh
If everyone starts following no follow.. From where will we get backlinks to increase our page rank..hmmm!

  16. Very good decision, IMHO. I think a good comment is always worth a link. Many visitors come to my blogs looking for links, but I think it’s nothing wrong with that, provided they add interesting comments.

I think this initiative will bring more and better commentors to your site.

    • Yes Usman. All commenters on this post have not completed the specified number of comments. Once the number is reached, the links will turn into dofollow automatically. However you can find other posts where old users have commented got their links turn to dofollow.

  18. Having a threshold for commenting with do-follow links is a good idea. It definitely deters the blogger looking for a cheap link. Extra time taken replying to comments is great, it means the site is growing.

  19. I think it’s a good idea with follow links, especially when you have the anti-spam check-box in commentluv premium to get rid of spam bots. I get almost zero spam after i installed that!

  20. Commentluv is a great way to help each other out. The moderation will not be time consuming. You will find more people coming to your blog. Enjoy the rewards you will receive by becoming do-follow. I also like the topcommentor plugin as well. It rewards your posters for being loyal.

  21. I agree with the article. Sharing is caring. You can also go to the CommentLuv network and search for blogs with CommentLuv plugin by keyword. You get free traffic to your site having installed this plugin. This is one of my favorite methods for finding dofollow blogs. I also know that there is couple of premium services for dofollow blogs who offers fresh blogs monthly. Regards.

This info really helps me understand how to properly incorporate dofollow on my wordpress website. As a newbie I’m learning it on my own. I guess it’s the best way as to truly appreciate work that has to be done than just get hand outs from the community from every barrier you come across. Should all websites I learn to build be do follow so I’m helping the internet and my own sites build much needed weight??

  28. I think you are going in the excellent route. In the lengthy convert run I think you can only advantage from improved action, feedback, involvement and visitors. They ranking will go up so you can probably profit this weblog better.
