Top Chrome Extensions for Bloggers to Live Happier

google_chrome_extensionsBloggers require more efficient tools and luckily, there are lots available. A good knowledge to use them properly makes our life much easier. In this post, I’m sharing my favorite Chrome Extensions. Life is really enjoying with them!

Google Chrome is the most loved browser today – I hope you all would – it is already agreed that this is the fastest browser on earth. Apart from speed, chrome is praised for its simplicity, security and all those great extensions that made it rich.

I was so addicted to Firefox till a few months ago and kept resisting when Ileane was already discussing about the top social media extensions and some really excellent tools like Digo and Zemanta for Google Chrome. Though there were some grumbles regarding the heavy CPU cycles, memory and battery power usages but who would sit behind after comparing the performance it offers? I bet you can’t resist longer if you are not using Google Chrome yet!

My intention, for now, is not to discuss whether chrome is more black or blue but to share those tools that are more sharper. Most of these extensions, you’re using already. If you are not, find here why I love them.

Never Make Those Shameful Typos Again

Sometimes, it is due to your ignorance and sometimes because you were careless – but its human nature – you can’t avoid all mistakes. You can remove some, if you make second reading, but still, how about a nice tool that will always accompany you and point out those silly errors?

The Google Chrome Extension  ‘After the Deadline’ by rsmudge is great for this purpose.

On every boxes in any web page, you’ll find this ready to assist you.

You see that small green ‘Spelling and Grammar’ icon at the bottom of comment box? That’s what ‘After the Deadline’ extension does. Just click it and you’ll know where you’ve made those damn mistakes.

OK, that’s great. You will find this tool helping you in Facebook, Twitter and any webpage where you need to enter some text. Don’t forget to click the icon after you finish typing.

Size Really Matters

size_mattersHow often you wish to know the dimensions? The width of your sidebar to fit a new widget – The width and breadth of image and so on. Here is a great extension that lets you to measure them. A very handy tool!

MeasureIt! by nirzoref lets you draw out a ruler that will help you get the pixel width and height of any elements on a webpage.

Simply click and draw over any element on web page to reveal the pixel width and height values.

Capture Edit And Use Them

Capture_screenEspecially for bloggers who write tutorials require to capture some or all of the page as image. You see some images in this post itself captured from browser. Generating images are required and you can’t always enchant Photoshop.

I often use ‘Annotation Pilot’ a free desktop application to capture a portion of screen and add annotations, then save it as JPG, GIF, PNG or in many other formats.

What if you need the image of whole web page or blog page that is longer than the height of your screen? Neither PrintScreen nor Annotation Pilot can help you. Here comes Aviary Screen Capture.

Take a screenshot of any webpage and edit it directly in your browser with Aviary.com applications. Plus convenient access to the Aviary website and tools.

This quick screen capture addon is a must-have for bloggers and designers alike! It will perform a screen capture of the visible portion of any webpage and then open the capture INSTANTLY in a basic image editor where you can do markup (draw arrows and rectangles), edit (crop, rotate and resize) and get the exact pixel colors of the image. A perfect companion tool for designers and bloggers!

Where Did I Go?

I’d thought to list the super-useful chrome extensions, but I don’t know how, the post developed more of descriptive and could not include all the extensions I’m using. Never mind, I hope this post will be useful to learn which plugins are of more use and what it is for. I plan to talk about SEO Chrome Extension for bloggers in some day.

Did you like this post? Or you think a long list would be of better use? Are you using Chrome and its extensions? Would you share some extensions that you find great to help blogging life? I’m most excited to hear from your side.

    Hi Suresh,

I’m still using firefox as my default browser but my second is chrome! Agree chrome is the faster and if firefox is slower for long time, may be I’d change.

I’ve installed After the Deadline at firefox and it is good, I assume the same for the chrome version.
I didn’t know about Aviary I use Awesome Screenshot but I’ll visit Aviary may be is better ;-)

    Cheers,

    Gera

When I am using Chrome, I tend to think there is Chrome everywhere, but yes, Firefox is not a loser. Thank you Gera for the comment.

Thanks for this list. I like using extensions for the time they save me. I use both chrome and firefox depending on what I’m doing. There are still a few things that firefox is useful for, but I use chrome for speed.

‘The cat is not stronger because tiger is older’ (a saying in Nepali). Firefox has some ground to stand firm, but I guess the extensions to Chrome will evolve making it capable to replace FF !:D?

That’s right Kimi. But chrome is too weak without the great extensions. When you have right extensions, you’ll enjoy the speed of chrome!

Hey Suresh, thanks for mentioning me when you think about Google Chrome. I have some new extensions that I want to share with you. Aviary is good but for some reason it crashes or takes a long time to load, so I also keep another extension handy. This one is called Awesome Screenshot and it loads pretty darn fast. There is another extension you might want to add and I got this tip from Karen at @BlazingMinds. She told me that the Alexa toolbar is available for chrome now too. Even though SEO Site Tools give me the Alexa rank, some people say that having the toolbar installed help with your Alexa rank. Mine has been going up all the time so I can’t really say for sure but I use it just in case :)

Back to SEO Site tools. I noticed when I signed in to Google Webmaster Tools that the SEO Site tools logo was on the page and they must have a special relationship with the developer now, so I know that I’m sticking with that one too.

Thanks for the run down of your favorites, I think I’ll try Size really matters next.

    Cheers!

Thank you Ileane for your suggestions in new extensions. Ya, I found Awesome Screenshot perform great.

I’m noticing the gradual increase in Alexa (decreased number), and hope it will help even better after I install Alexa toolbar?

Those are some great plugins but many think of Chrome as a way for Google to monitor they web surfing patterns.
I am still firefox man for the diversity of webmaster/seo and other kinds of plugins mozilla has and although it lacks in speed and is a memory hog I still use it.
About the part with the faster load time, I can’t really express myself, but I think there were test made and Opera was one of the fastest with IE coming second (mainly because it has the majority of it’s libraries preloaded with Windows).

I don’t think Google needs its own browser to monitor web surfing patterns when almost of the sites use Analytics and other scripts from Google. I guess Google is extending itself.

IE is not much favored because, as I think, (1) it is default browser for Windows PC – people prefer better customization and (2) vulnerability – browser crash is worst experience. Its been long, if it has been improved now?

Thank you Alex for this great input.

That’s great Ajinkya. Do you believe using Alexa toolbar will improve ranking? I’ve read a few blog posts mentioning that and could never understand.

        Twitter:

        Yeah dude , i do believe !
Thats because the toolbar absorbs all the data and thats how alexa ranking is analyzed ! But not with alexa widget because , it just displays data and not collects .According to my experience , the change in alexa rank is first observed in toolbar and official alexa blog stat page and then in widget which we put on our blog .
Thats why there are some blogs with poor alexa rank but with explosive traffic whereas some with less traffic but with praising alexa rank ;D depending upon the visitors !

That must be correct. Thanks a lot to educate. But, like – I have a blog, and I have alexa toolbar – now, alexa can collect data from my toolbar, but will it be significant because its one person when ranking is based on thousands. Let me make myself clearer, if I have toolbar and I browser lot of sites, it will be beneficial for those sites, but is it true that I will improve my website ranking because I have alexa toolbar installed?

    Hi Suresh
Thanks for such an informative rundown on Chrome. I have been hearing all the techies talk about it on Twitter. As a complete technophobe I tend not to join in these conversations lol
You have given a great explanation though that is easy to understand. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been using Chrome for a week now (after being a FireFox fan for 3 years) and I love it. It’s built very smart because it loads each of the extensions as a separate process, so the chances for it to crash are very small.
I’m already using the measureit extension but now I’ll install the other two. I like shareholic as well. great extension for quick and easy sharing in all social networks
